I have been very fortunate to travel and to experience true wilderness and pockets of our incredible planet untouched by the hand of man. It is preferable for me to be more intimate with the world, to deeply observe and contemplate what is before me, capturing a vanishing world through my lens based and field sound work. Driven by reverence and wonder, it is solitary and often lonely work, taking great patience, in environments that are mostly unpredictable, sometimes inhospitable and more often, luminous. Our culture is fast paced and we live in a very noisy world. As human-generated noise encroaches on wilderness areas, wildlife populations are suffering due to disrupted communication and foraging, with negative impacts on reproduction rates. This noise pollution is particularly detrimental to animals relying on echolocation for finding food, leading to declines in their populations. Furthermore, the changing environmental landscape, characterized by disappearing water sources, drought, smog, tree mortality, invasive species proliferation, and altered phenology, highlights the interconnectedness of noise pollution and broader ecological degradation.

Often, unplanned moments occur when in the field - a pink Amazon dolphin splashing our drifting wooden boat signaling we were too close for comfort to her baby, the whirring sound of whimbrels diving for mollusks at dusk and dawn, observing a polar bear, nose to the air, wandering on a desolate snowy shore, witnessing a fox relocating from its hunting ground due to a volcanic eruption of spewing red hot lava.

My work is deeply influenced by these random yet significant encounters. The beauty of wildlife thriving in their natural habitat inspires profound awe, while the destructive consequences of human actions evoke deep concern. Recognizing the vulnerability of our planet's resources, emphasizes the urgent necessity for eco-art, environmental advocacy, activism, and outreach – all working towards a common goal: the protection of landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and their habitats in our natural world.

The core of my work is to translate these experiences into a form that resonates emotionally with others so they can feel motivated to act. This connection and potential for action truly define the meaning and purpose of my work and vision.

The introduction of field and hydrophone recording in 2021, began a significant shift and change into my creative practice, process, further developing my visual and sound based work. In 2023, I began exploring a new direction, integrating 3D plastic with field and hydrophone recordings, video and selective text.

As I experiment and explore new ideas, technology and processes, I am able to create alternative approaches forming a unique experience in learning about ourselves and our collective world through image, sound, text and film.
